NEW AD MODULE - INTRO AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Ladies and gentlemen, today eRepublik created a new advertising module. This new module allows for people to bid on advertising space to help spread their message, whatever it may be. It will definitely become a major part of eRepublik's future. I believe we must act quickly in order to make sure we do not fall behind in this field.

The article is here, and I suggest you all read it. I will paraphrase it however. There are three stages to advertising. You begin with the design stage, where you Select a Title (up to 50 Characters), a message (up to 150 characters), and an internal eRepublik link (no youtube, only papers and the like). You can also add an image if you like. After this, you can choose who to target your ad to. You can select globally, by nation, or by region. You cannot however, choose three states and leave the rest out. You would have to choose all the states or get multiple ads. There are also determinants for employees, voters, party members, congressmen, super soldiers, general managers, party presidents, or everyone. Note that you can only choose one of those groups.

The most important thing is the CPI, or Cost Per Impression. Impressions are when your ad shows up on someone’s page. For example, if my ad showed up on the home page, that would be one impression. When you buy an ad, you get to choose how much you want to pay for it, and how many impressions you are buying. The minimum cost is two gold, and the minimum number of impressions is 1000. The minimum cost per impression is .001 Gold per impression.

Why does this matter? Because eRepublik is greedy. If two people are vying for the same ad space, the one who has a higher CPI, i.e. the one who is spending more, gets the space. Over the next few days I will be watching the market very carefully to see where the average price falls. We should make sure to try and not stay at the minimum level, but also try and not spend too much.

Lastly, when you advertise, you can either have the ads start immediately, or you can choose a time window between which the ad will air.

With this new module, I am requesting funding from the party to assist in spreading the Federalist Message. The Media Org needs gold if we want to get the word out.

I was talking with Kyle321n on the IRC he just put the Nationalist Party's ads up this morning, 12000 impressions total. By around 9:45am there had already been 4000 impressions. The problem was that he didn't target the ads as much as he should have; the Nat's ad is/was being viewed by the entire US population.

Point being, make sure you don't waste gold on ads that 'two-clickers' will only ignore; target voters.

A good idea would be to target only the Big five states, New Jersey, Florida, New York, California, and to a much lesser extent, Texas. Those are the only states (I believe) that have over 500 players, and where most of the active players will be.

Yeah, definitely target the most populated states.

I can't believe the CPI is so high...that's ridiculous. On my REAL websites that advertise real things, we don't charge as much as eRep! hahaha

Let's watch this thing roll and see what happens. Obviously we're going to promote the hell out of our candidates for Congress so we should organize with Augustis so we know who is running where and what party they're running under.
